Many great achievements in software development come from the collaboration of a dedicated community, pitching in for the common good. Google has long been a prominent member of the open source community, and asked us to create a brand and destination around their open source initiatives.

With Open Source, Everyone Wins

Google's involvement in a huge number of open source initiatives demonstrates their commitment to transparent collaboration; it's part of their DNA.
In this spirit, Google wanted to create a website promoting developer cooperation while sharing their extensive learnings and processes for open source development. By releasing this information for the first time, they’ve given developers an inside look at how Google “does” open source.

“Our design solution symbolically represents both community coding and Google, in the simplest way.”

Showcasing 2,000 Projects and Counting
In setting out to create a new brand for the initiative, we took inspiration from software version control and branching diagrams to create a logo and visual language that balanced community coding with a nod to the Google core identity—search. We then designed and developed the website and team collateral, ensuring brand consistency.
The website details over two thousand Google open source projects, alongside internal documentation, source code for each project, and a blog providing real-world context. The new site showcases Google’s love for open source technology.
As developers ourselves, we’re proud to support our community in learning how Google uses, releases, and supports open source today.
“It was incredibly rewarding for us to be a part of Google’s open source program, supporting this milestone release of open source documentation to the public.”
- Elaine Cheng, Account Director, Client Partnerships
