Android 404

By playfully imagining what’s behind a 404 “page not found” message, we turned a common error into a delightful brand experience.

Making the 404 Page Fun

404 errors can be a frustrating part of browsing the web. Users can find themselves staring at a white page, wondering where their search or link went wrong.

The Android website proved to be the perfect candidate for a friendlier approach. Building on the lightness of the brand, we turned their 404 page into the ultimate easter egg, creating a fast-paced game that challenges users to help the Androids take care of business.

“We imagined what might take place behind the scenes of android.com—a fun play on who’s really powering the website. “

- Shane Zucker, Motion Director, LFL

Have fun getting lost

Due to its unexpected nature and challenging gameplay, users who found themselves on the page often ended up returning to spend more time with the game.

Ultimately, this playful project celebrated the Android brand in classic style—and won the “Awwwards Site of the Day” for Nov 01, 2016.

“Help. It's ridiculously addictive once you start playing. It doesn't help that the game is so cutely designed. Seriously, someone help me.“
